ANSI #25 and #35 roller chain, master links, half links, an inline tensioner and a chain tool — all under one product. Chain cuts to any length, so unlike belt you are not locked to a tooth count. If you can accept the weight and bulk, chain carries the highest load.

Specifications

  • Standard: ANSI roller chain
  • #25 and #25H pitch: 6.35 mm (1/4")
  • #35 pitch: 9.525 mm (3/8")
  • #25 breaking / working load: ~8.2 kN / ~1.65 kN
  • #25H breaking / working load: ~12.7 kN / ~2.54 kN
  • #35 breaking / working load: ~21.4 kN / ~4.27 kN
  • #25H difference: same pitch as #25 with thicker plates — runs on the same sprocket
  • Chain length: 3 m (10 ft) roll
  • Cutting: To any length with the chain tool
  • Use: FRC/FTC drivetrains, elevators, arms

Which chain should I pick?

Type Pitch Breaking load Working load Typical use
#25 6.35 mm (1/4") ~8.2 kN (1,850 lb) ~1.65 kN (370 lb) Intakes, conveyors, light mechanisms
#25H 6.35 mm (1/4") ~12.7 kN (2,850 lb) ~2.54 kN (570 lb) Elevators, smaller arms — medium load
#35 9.525 mm (3/8") ~21.4 kN (4,800 lb) ~4.27 kN (960 lb) Large arms, heavy lifts, high-torque drives

Working load is the limit considered safe in continuous running — roughly a fifth of the breaking load. Design to the working load, not the breaking load.

What is #25H? Heavy-series chain on the same pitch as #25 (6.35 mm) but with thicker side plates. It runs on the same sprockets and uses the same centre-distance maths — it simply carries more load and weighs a little more. If #25 is breaking, you can move to #25H without changing sprockets.

Chain or belt?

GT2 2 mm HTD 5M #25 / #35 chain
Strength Fair Good Excellent
Weight Excellent Good Fair
Efficiency Excellent Good Good
Choosing length Closed loop — pick the tooth count up front Closed loop — pick the tooth count up front Cut to any length
Notes Compact and quiet. Compact, higher load than GT2. Needs lubrication, noisier and heavier than belt.

How do I find the centre distance?

Enter both sprocket tooth counts and the link count into the chain calculator on the UBS Tools page. It also works the other way round: give a target centre distance and it returns the link count needed — and you can choose whether half links are allowed.

I do not know what to order

The bundle covers everything needed to build one mechanism: chain, master links, half links, a tensioner and the chain tool. If you already own the tool, buying just chain and links comes out cheaper. Half links are for runs that have to close on an odd link count — common on #25.

Work out the right size

No need to leave this page — enter the tooth counts and see which size you need right here.

#25, #35 and 8 mm chain. Enter both sprocket tooth counts and the links you have, or a target centre distance.
